Summer 2

Week 5

This week has been a fun filled week. We have read the story ‘The Undersea Cleaning Spree’ and explored how pollution affects our oceans. We investigated how oil spills affect water and sea life and problem solved ways of removing oil from the water. We went to Skelmersdale Cinema to watch Inside Out 2 and we even gave ourselves a different character to dress up as on the day which was lots of fun. We finished our week by having our end of year trip to Blue Planet Aquarium. We watched pelicans being fed, got to feed some of the fish in the aquarium and really enjoyed the shark tunnel!

Week 4

This week we have designed and made our own felt fish as part of our d&t project. We thought carefully about the colours of the felt and wool we wanted to use as well as how we would decorate it. We then used the plans to make our own felt fish and each practise an over stitch as well as a running stitch. The designs look lovely and we had so much fun doing them whilst also developing our independence skills.

Week 3

This week we have continued with our ‘Under the Sea’ topic. We have made tangram pictures of different sea creatures and talked about the names of the 2d shapes. We listened to ‘The Aquarium’ by Camille Saint-Saëns and created our own expressive dance routines using voiles and ribbons. We have also added our own musical instruments to the piece of music, carefully listening to the softer and louder sounds. At swimming, we got to play on the inflatable sea creatures! They were so much fun! We finished our week with a sunny walk to the library to find books with sea creatures in them. All of Mel’s Class were fantastic!

Week 2

We have started our new topic ‘Under the Sea’ this week and have been exploring the story ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. We have developed our phonics skills by reading secret words using the ‘magic ocean’ and have also been fishing for phonics using fishing rods which the children have really enjoyed. We looked at different types of whales and listened to the noises that make whilst creating sensory process art using different parts of our bodies. We have also wowed all of the grown ups in class in our tuck shop this week and some of us have even recognised when change needs to be given. A super week in Mel’s Class!

Week 1

We have had a lovely first week back after our half term holidays. We were very excited to visit our brand new sensory room and particularly loved the vibrating wall! We made some delicious pancakes and practised our money skills by paying for them in our class tuck shop. Some of our children represented Kingsbury at a GLD football tournament. The children were fantastic and made us super proud.
