Forest school
24th March
We have continued our spring topic this week and our focus has been activities relating to the story The Hungry Caterpillar. Please see some of the things we have learnt about this week:
- Read the multi-sensory story The Hungry Caterpillar
- Worked as a team to create a giant caterpillar. We then labelled it with the days of the week and what he caterpillar ate on each day
- Life skill activities including brushing our teeth and hair
- Followed instructions to make caterpillar biscuits and play-dough
-We visited Asda to practise exchanging money for goods
- Lots of PLOs and learning in through the provision
17th March
We’ve been very busy this week. Again Spring has been our focus and lots of our activities have been linked to this. We also enjoyed inviting our parents/carers to school for Mother’s Day afternoon and had tea and cake. On Friday we participated in enrichment activities for Red Nose Day.

10th March
This week, we continued our Spring theme. The Enormous Turnip book was the focal point of our learning. Here are some of the things we participated in this week:
- Planting turnips
- How to look after ourselves and plants.
- Watered our cress heads and turnips
- Sensology
- Story massage
- Yoga
- Following visual and written instructions to make play dough and biscuits
- Lots of learning in the continuous provision
- PLOs
For World Book our class theme was Mr Men. Throughout the week we read various multi-sensory stories and lots of our continous provison activities were based around the story. Below are some of the activities we participated in:
- Thrive activities relating to Mr Men
- Following visual, verbal and written instructions to make play-dough, biscuits and Mr Men drawings.
- Sensology
- Story Massage
- Call and respond Music
- Exchanging money for goods at a local cafe
- Lots of PLOs and learning in the provision

This week has been a short week and we have been busy learning about Spring.
- Read the multi-sensory story Spring
- Made and cared for cress heads
- Exchanged money for dafodils at Asda
- Painted dafodils
- Followed visual and written instructions to make biscuits and a play dough using hair conditioner
- Attention Autism
- Learnt how to stay safe in the local environment
- Lots of PLOs and learning through play
10th February
This week has been the second week of our Hansel and Gretel theme. This was our last week of following visual and written instructions to make cakes and play dough. Next half term we are making muffins and alternative play dough. Check out some of the things we have been learning about this week:
- Constructing houses from the story
- Exploring our senses in sensology
- Kindness and sharing for Valentines Day

3rd February
The story of Hansel and Gretel will be the centre of our traditional stories topic for the next two weeks. The story has served as the basis for many of the provision activities. See some of the things we have been learning about below:
- Exchanging money for goods. Specifically sweets from the story
- Dough gym.

27th January
The children have loved our Chinese New Year theme this week. Please see some of the things we have learnt about this week:
- Read the multi-sensory story Busy Chinese New Year and practised letter and number formation in our continuous provision
- Followed online visual and verbal instructions to draw a rabbit and dragon
- Danced around school in a dragon costume with drums and traditional Chinese music
- We continued to followed instructions to make playdough and cakes
- Swimming and learning to ride a bike
- Story Massage
- Learning in the continuous provision

20th January
We continued to base our week around the book Bear Snores on. Please see some of our activities below:
- We visited Ruff Wood in Ormskirk, built a den and read some of the story inside it
- Attention Autism - sleeping bear theme
- Art - followed step by step instructions to draw a hibernating bear
- Broke different animals out of ice from the story
- During cooking we followed step by step visual and written instructions to make play dough and cakes
- Lots of PLOs and learning through our continuous provision
Our theme this term is ‘life around us and our growing world’. For the next two weeks we are reading the book, Bear Snores on and basing some of our activities around the book. Below is a selection of activities we have completed this week;
- Worked as a team to create a den for the bear to sleep
- We then rein-acted the story
- Art - created a bear hibernating in a cave using different materials
- Followed written and visual instructions to make play dough and cake
- Continued to learn how to ride a bike
- Thrive - identifying character emotions and strategies for regulation
