Autumn Term 2

Week 7

We have had an amazing Christmas week in Ally’s class. On Monday our Elf, Eric, brought us a North Pole Breakfast. He brought some of his friends from the North Pole to help him and they made a bit of a mess! The classroom was decorated and we all had a place to sit at the table. Eric had made some delicious breakfast treats for us. We listened to Christmas music and had a Christmas projector whilst we ate our breakfast. It was fantastic.

On Tuesday we went sledging and everybody had a turn, we explored the small, medium and big hills. The children did amazing sharing and turn taking with the sledges. Some of the children enjoyed running through the frosty grass. We had some sledge races down the hills, we went down the hills on the sledge with our friends. It was a lovely morning trip!

On Wednesday we had our Christmas dinner and our Christmas party. The table was decorated and we had fun using the props at the table. After dinner we went into the hall for a disco and a snowball fight, then we returned to class to play some party games. There are some fantastic dancers in Ally’s class and we had lots of fun playing pass the parcel and musical statues.

From everybody in Ally’s class we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Week 6

Ally's class have enjoyed a very festive week. They did an amazing job in the Christmas show singing and signing through the songs. Well done everybody!

This week we have also made some Christmas decorations by making and baking our own salt dough. We worked together to follow a recipe and make the salt dough. Once it was made we chose our favourite festive shapes and cut them out, ready to be baked. We then decorated them using paint and glitter. We have also had some orange scented play dough in class, which we have enjoyed cutting Christmas shapes from, it smelt lovely too.

We explored some catalogues we had in class to look for presents we would like and made our own festive wish list.

On Friday we explored some festive jokes and cracked the picture code to work out the answer to the joke! Everybody managed to crack the code for their joke.

Week 5

This week we have enjoyed reading our story, Charlie the firefighter for our 'helping hands' topic. We engaged in some role play and small world play using firefighter toys.

This week's sensory play has involved using coloured rice which has been a big success, the children have enjoyed moving it with their hands, using tools in it and dropping it onto musical instruments to hear the sounds it makes.

We went for a visit to the cinema this week, the children voted what film they would like to watch and enjoyed watching Lyle Lyle crocodile.

We have also spent some time playing turn taking games and playing with others, this is something Ally's class have worked really hard on and have shown great progress in.

This week we also enjoyed some relaxation activities and started some Christmas craft activities, enjoying doing some art and having a go!

Week 4

This week in Ally's class we have been practising our independence skills by preparing and making our own breakfast. This week it was waffles and smoothies we were making. We practised a range of skills including reading recipes, weighing, measuring, chopping and mixing ingredients.

We also had a really successful swimming session on Wednesday, everyone came to the swimming baths and tried their best in the session. Ally's class did fantastic listening, we tried a new skill this week - swimming through a hoop and it was very successful.

We have also been practising some mindfulness and relaxation. At the end of the day, we have been exploring some meditation, so we are calm and ready for home. Today we also had a MOVE session in class where we explored different ways of using a peanut ball, we ended that session with some relaxation time, so we were calm and ready to start the day - Dougie even joined in!

Week 3

We have had lots of fun this week. Our story this week was about different families, a party and being inclusive. We have explored party tuff trays and played listening and attention games, which we were really good at!

On Thursday we went out to Dobbies garden centre to explore the Christmas decorations, then after dinner we played some turn taking games and ended the day with a meditation session.

To end the week, we had a sensory baking session. The children were asked what they wanted to make and this week they chose cakes, which fitted in with our story part of the party. Some children had a go at reading the ingredients list and recognising what we needed, some children weighed out the amount we needed and recognised the correct amount using the scales. We took turns mixing the ingredients together and spooning them into the cases. Once they were ready, we all decorated our own cakes and chose what sprinkles we wanted to add to them.

Week 2

Our story this week was about people who help us, we looked at different jobs that people have and how they can help us. We recognised people's jobs by their uniforms and completed puzzles of them. After looking at jobs, in the afternoon we explored why we recycle and what we recycle. Using some recycled jars and cups we made mini 'gumball machines' using rainbow drops.

To mark Remembrance Day, we listened to information about the day and what it was for. We then used a range of different skills to complete activities. We painted some poppies to decorate our class windows. We also used scissor skills to cut, then followed instructions to fold, stick and make a wreath.

As a team we made a giant poppy using scrunched up tissue paper. In the afternoon we went for a walk in the community and took the poppy to the memorial garden. Everyone was very interested in the memorial and spent some time looking around the statue.

Week 1

What a busy week we have had! On Monday we had a Halloween day we listened to a story called 'a magical muddle' which we thought was really funny! We made and decorated skeleton biscuits and made some pumpkin decorations.

Since Tuesday we have learned about bonfire night, keeping safe and families. We read the story sparks in the sky, talked about what we do on bonfire night with our family. Then we made some firework pictures using paint and glitter. We explored lots of firework activities including fine motor fireworks, playdough fireworks and sensory fireworks.

On Thursday we did lots of activities in our outdoor area, we did gross motor activities including exploring ways to move our new tyres and throwing games. We also had the chance to do some fine motor activities using chalk to draw fireworks and tracks to follow around our outdoor area. On Thursday afternoon we visited the fire engine outside school and met the firefighters. This linked with our topic 'helping hands' and our story for this week which was about bonfire night. We enjoyed using the hose and climbing in the fire engine.
