Spring 1

Week 5

This week we have explored Chinese New Year’. We read a story called ‘Dragons in the City’ and have had lots of fun with different activities throughout the week. We visited the local supermarket to purchase our own Chinese food, practising our life and functional skills. We enjoyed cooking and eating the food too! We have also continued developing our skills with money. We finished our week with a fabulous Forest School session with Ruth.

Week 4

This week we have continued with our ‘Once Upon a Time’ topic and have explored ‘The Enormous Turnip’. We enjoyed a sensory story and have sequenced the story. We have had lots of fun drawing the story also! We practised pulling in our phonics session by using our new phoneme stamps which we stuck in some purple play dough. We were inspired by the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo and created our own portrait masterpieces using fruits and vegetables for the different facial features. We went on our educational visit to Liverpool Museum and had so much fun exploring all of the exciting things. We particularly enjoyed the aquarium and the Egyptian mummies!

Week 3

This week we have continued with our ‘Once Upon a Time’ topic and have explored ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We enjoyed a sensory story as well as sequencing and role playing the story. We particularly liked pretending to be the witch! We imagined what we would spend a treasure chest of gold coins on and had lots of lovely ideas including a holiday to Japan, a visit to McDonalds and going to the shop to buy lots of sweets! We explored some of the coins in the treasure chest and have been recognising the sizes and colours in order to sort them into piles. We talked about healthy and unhealthy foods and made our own delicious looking plates to show a balanced meal.

Week 2

This week we have continued with our Gingerbread Man story. We enjoyed a STEM activity in which we had to think how to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river safely using only jelly cubes and dried spaghetti. We had loads of fantastic ideas including stepping stones, bridges and even a hover board! We made waffles again this week and they were even bigger and better than last week. We continued with our weekly tuck shop to develop our functional maths skills and bought our own breakfast. We finished the week with a wonderful music session in which we watched a version of the Gingerbread Man with the philharmonic orchestra. We then told our version of the Gingerbread Man using instruments for the different characters and we were AMAZING!

Week 1

Happy New Year to you all!
We have had a wonderful first week back and have been very excited to share what we had been up to over the Christmas holidays. We have started our new topic for this half term which is ‘Once Upon a Time’ and have been exploring the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We enjoyed a sensory story earlier this week and have had so much fun using the props to retell the story ourselves. We have made our own gingerbread men as part of our life skills as well as testing out our new waffle maker - they were delicious!
