Spring Term 1

Our topic this term is ‘Once Upon a Time’ 🏰

Week 3- This week, our sensory story was ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We have enjoyed this story and have had fun retelling the story. We started the week with a listening and attention game, where the children had to remember which items were in the tray as Kathryn gradually took each item out one by one, using the towel. Some of us enjoyed an activity which involved sorting through different food and drink items and saying which were healthy and which were unhealthy. We spoke about how we can have some ‘unhealthy’ items in moderation. We have also enjoyed a STEM activity, where the children were given sweets and cocktail sticks to create a ‘trap’ for the witch! They did some fantastic designs and Kathryn was very impressed! We have also been using the ‘magic ink’ to reveal different CVC words as part of our phonics. We have also enjoyed a yoga session this week, where a yoga teacher came into school and did a lovely session with us. What a great week!

Week 2- This week, we have continued with our story ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We have really enjoyed this story and love joining in when Kathryn reads it to us. We have been practising our counting skills this week, counting out the correct amount of buttons onto the gingerbread man both on the interactive whiteboard and onto a cut out gingerbread man. We have also been retelling the story using both props and pictures. We have been busy making gingerbread men and gingerbread biscuits this week which were yummy! We have also enjoyed playing with gingerbread dough and some of us had a go at cutting the dough using scissors.

Week 1- This week, we have started our new topic ‘Once Upon a Time’. Our story this week is The Gingerbread Man. We are really enjoying this story so far. We have been joining in with re telling the story and anticipating what will happen next. We have been designing our own gingerbread men this week. We also enjoyed making our own to eat. We went on our first trip of the year to the World museum in Liverpool. We had a great time looking round the different exhibits. We particularly like the aquarium! We have also enjoyed a trip out to the park where we worked on our gross motor skills. We have enjoyed lots of turn taking games this week. Some of us enjoyed a science experiment, where we predicted and tested different gingerbread men in three different liquids. We used words such as absorb and dissolve to describe the changes. What a great first week back!
