Autumn Term 1

17th-20th October

This week we have been reading the story 'Funnybones'. We have looked at families and houses linked to our theme. To make houses we used lego and blocks for construction. We also made our own 'dark dark street' using junk modelling and were able to add a train track to make a 'dark dark town'. Everybody had a go at painting or sticking together the houses.

The pumpkins we picked were hollowed out and carved, we used them for spooky sensory play and to make a tunnel for our spooky train.

We practised our fine motor skills this week using playdough to make 'Funnybones' characters and using tweezers to pick up spooky critters from the spiders web. For our oral motor sensory activities we had a race to pick up spooky shapes using our own straws, at the end we counted how many we managed to get.

A very spooky week in Ally's class!

Thursday Forest School

10/10/2022 - 14/10/2022

This week we have enjoyed reading the story 'the tiger who came to tea'. We have had so much fun remembering what happened in the story, writing invitations, making tiger masks and planning our own tea party for class.

On Thursday we enjoyed going on a trip to Roby Mill pumpkin patch. There was so much to see and do. We wanted to fill our wheelbarrow with pumpkins, it was very exciting! We found pumpkins that were big and small and pumpkins that were a range of colours. Everybody enjoyed finding the props around the field and taking photos with them. We also found out how many pumpkins tall we were. We managed to pick some pumpkins to take back to school, which we will use for carving and baking next week using a recipe we got from the pumpkin patch.

We have also enjoyed using the sensory park at school, we explored the equipment and have had so much fun playing with our friends outside.

Thursday Forest School

Today was Forest school! We had so much fun playing games, singing whilst swinging on the hammock as well as zooms wheelbarrow rides. We listened to a story of Leaf man and then made leaf people or animals. What a great day we had!

Incredible me!

This week we have been reading the story 'incredible me'. We have been learning what each other's favourite things are and what we are good at! Everybody made a 'proud cloud' with 5 of their favourite things on it.

We also we made our own superhero masks because we are incredible! Everyone was able to name their favourite superhero and say what superpower they would like. In our tuff tray we measured and compared superheroes in our superhero town.

On Thursday we went on a visit to the beach to see the iron men statues. Everyone explored the statues along the beach. The children did their own iron men statue poses, we thought they were all brilliant! We found shells and stones on the beach; we made faces in the sand using them. We also had a bit of fun on the park before our dinner, after dinner we enjoyed an ice cream from the ice cream van. On our way back to the minibus we found an information board that told us all about the statues being installed on the beach.

To finish off the week we had rebound therapy and did some sensory baking to make pizza faces, we chose and chopped our own ingredients then arranged them on our base to make a face. Once they were cooked, we enjoyed eating them.

All about me

This week we have spent time looking at how we are different. We shared the story 'we are all different' and talked about how we are different, we shared our favourite colours and activities to see if they were the same or different.

On Friday we enjoyed making some gingerbread biscuits. Everybody had a job when we were baking - some of us read the recipe out loud, some of us found the correct ingredients, some of us measured out the ingredients. We all had a go at mixing, and we cut out our gingerbread people. When they were baked, we enjoyed decorating them and tasting them!!

Welcome back!

It has been amazing to welcome the children back into school this week. We have spent some time in class getting to know our new classmates and engaging in activities, both inside and outside the classroom, exploring our new outdoor area.

This week we explored our senses through a sensory story of ‘George’s marvellous medicine’. We listened to the story and talked about it. In class we made our own potions, just like in the story. We explored lots of different smells, colours and textures before deciding what to put in our own potion bottles. We practised pouring, mixing and sharing when we were making them. I think everybody was proud of their own potions when they had finished!

This week we also went on our first swimming lesson of the term and enjoyed rebound therapy on Friday.
