Autumn 2

Week 8

We have had a fun filled Christmas themed week making Christmas bags, calendars and salt dough Christmas decorations. We are very excited for the holidays and deserve a well earned rest!

Mel’s Class would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. xxx

Week 7

This week we have been enjoying lots of Christmas crafts including making our Christmas cards, some Winter process art and our Christmas dinner crowns! We also make our own reindeer food and had lots of fun scooping all of the mix and putting it into the cones. Our Christmas performance was fantastic and we are so proud of the children for their wonderful singing and signing. A massive thank you to everyone for watching! We have also enjoyed our Christmas dinner as a whole school and had our own party games in class!

Week 6

This week we have continued with our story ‘Cookie’s Christmas Invention’ and made our very own inventions using junk modelling. We enjoyed being creative and sharing our ideas which included a flying car, a wind up jelly fish and a guitar that only plays solos. We went on a very soggy community walk as a whole school to St Paul’s church to look at their Christmas tree display. We enjoyed exploring the church, playing on the instruments as well as decorating our own biscuits. A huge thank you to St Paul’s for welcoming us!

Week 5

This week we have been looking at the story ‘Cookie’s Christmas Invention’. We made our own play dough cookies and counted out chocolate chips by adding two numbers together. We have also been practising writing various words within pretend snow. We have continued with our tuck shop for breakfast and have been enjoying role playing whilst buying our items. We have also made a start on our Christmas preparations by creating our own letters for Father Christmas!

Week 4

This week was our final week with our ‘3 Little Pigs’ focus. We made our own scientific predictions by exploring materials to see whether we felt that the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ could blow them. We then tested each item and sorted them into categories! This week we have been practising our Christmas songs and we are doing so well in learning all of the Makaton signs! As part of our Enterprise for the Christmas fair, we developed our Independence and Self Help skills and made hot chocolate cones!

Week 3

This week we have continued with our ‘Under Construction’ theme and our story of ‘The 3 Little Pigs’. We explored the emotions of the different characters in the story and used communication boards and Makaton to identify how they were feeling. We also used bricks, straw and sticks to create our own houses with paints, exploring textures, patterns and colours. A big thank you to everyone who attended our sensory afternoon on Friday!

Week 2

This week we have started our new topic ‘Under Construction’ and are focussing on the story of ‘The 3 Little Pigs’. We enjoyed a sensory story with lots of multi sensory props and have even sequenced the story ourselves using our fringe board to help us. We have played a number game in which we had to roll the dice and count out the correct number of bricks in order to build a house for our pig before the wolf blew it down! This week we have also enjoyed developing our phonics skills and making words by pushing magnetic letters into pink playdough!

Week 1

This week we have enjoyed some spooky activities including mixing potions using our Maths skills and bobbing for apples! We have also been learning about Bonfire Night and how to be safe. We made our own chocolate apples and have also developed our sewing skills by making our own firework displays using wool and hessian! Our Life Skills baking sessions this half term are cakes and this week, we followed instructions made by one of our children to make our very own delicious chocolate cakes. Yummy!
