Autumn Term 2

Week 7

Something very exciting happened in Mel’s Class this week. We were given tickets to board our very own Polar Express! We had our tickets stamped, boarded the train and watched the very magical film. We had a special treat trolley with some lovely home made cakes from one of our fabulous children (thank you) and we even had hot chocolates whilst watching our grown ups do a ‘hot chocolate dance’.

We would like to wish all of our children and parents a very magical Christmas. See you in January!

Week 6

This week we have continued with our Christmas crafts. We have made our own Christmas cards, mince pies and some reindeer food. We have also started to make some hanging decorations which we will complete next week. We had our Christmas Carol Concert this week, performing to our families and were did a fantastic job!

Week 5

This week we have explored the role of a postman/woman as part of our helping hands topic. We had a super special visitor come into school to talk about his job. A big thank you to Andrew the postman for coming in to see us! We also enjoyed a sensory story of ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ and have made a start on some Christmas crafts as well as practising for our Christmas Carol Concert.

Week 4

This week, as part of our helping hands topic, we have been exploring the role of a vet and how they look after animals. We went on the bus to pets at home to look at lots of different things that our therapy dog, Dougie may need. We adopted our own cuddly animals, made name tags and used our fine motor skills to create a collar for them. This week we were very lucky to have a visit from the Lancashire Constabulary. We got to sit in the police car and hear the sirens go off! On Friday we had our World Cup enrichment afternoon and we got to visit different countries to sample foods from around the world as well as experience their cultures.

Week 3

This week we explored Police as part of our Helping Hands topic. We have enjoyed lots of role play as well as learning about how the Police look after us and keep us safe. We had to become detectives on Wednesday because someone took our doughnuts! We worked together to follow the clues and found them safe and sound. We went on a lovely community walk to Lidl to find items on our list to make our own cupcakes.

Week 2

Another busy week in Mel’s Class! This week as part of our helping hands topic we have been exploring doctors and nurses. We visited Bamber Bridge park for some healthy fun for our bodies and then went for a drive to find some emergency vehicles. We have loved our hospital role play this week and have been giving lots of first aid for the poorly patients. We have been learning how to call for help in an emergency, calling 999 and moving a person into the recovery position safely. We had a very special visit from our very own school nurse, Laura. We asked her lots of questions about her job and we also got our weight and height measured. We have made our own X-ray pictures using the photocopier and thought carefully about where our bones are in our hands.

Week 1

What an exciting week we have had! Our focus this week has been  ‘firefighters’ as part of our ‘helping hands’ topic. We have looked at fire safety in forest school and some of us had a turn at building a fire and using a fire gauntlet to feed the fire. We read the story ‘Charlie the Firefighter’ and have been taking on the role of a firefighter ourselves by dressing up, making our own fire engines using crates and even putting out number fires with spray bottles in the tuff tray. We had a firefighter training afternoon and waited for the bell to ring on Mel’s IPad. We quickly put on our firefighter suits and made our way to the hall to complete a firefighter obstacle course to see if we all have what it takes to be as strong as a firefighter. We all got a certificate and are proud to say that we are all now Mel’s Class Firefighters!

We also had a very special visit from some real firefighters. We got to use the hose and even got to sit in the fire engine!
