Autumn Term 2

Our topic this term is ‘Helping hands’

Week 7- We have had a lovely Christmas filled week this week for our final week of Autumn 2! We have been busy finishing off Christmas decorations ready to take home for our families. We enjoyed exploring the ice outside this week and talked about how it felt. We also went on a trip to Aldi this week to buy some party food for our Christmas party. We had a lovely Christmas party with our friends. We played pass the parcel and musical statues. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Kathryn’s class! See you in 2023!

Week 6- This week we have had a lovely Christmas craft themed week. We have been busy making lots of lovely things to send home next week. We started our Christmas sensory story called ‘10 little elves’. We have enjoyed lots of messy play and did a great job in our Christmas concert this week. We ended the week with a trip to Dobbies. We enjoyed looking at the Christmas decorations and especially liked looking at the different fish!

Week 5- This week we have been learning about postmen/women and the post office. We have enjoyed reading our sensory story ‘The Jolly Postman and other people’s letters’. We enjoyed looking at the different letters in the book and some of us were able to read some of the letters! We then went on a walk to our local post office to buy envelopes and stamps. We made some cards for the police and the fire service to say thankyou for coming to visit us a few weeks ago. We then posted the letters and on our way home we saw a postman delivering some post to our school. We also gave a thankyou letter to Laura our school nurse. We also enjoyed starting some Christmas activities this week and decorated our class Christmas tree.

Week 4- This week we have been learning all about doctors and nurses. We had our lovely school nurse Laura come and visit us this week. She measured our height and weight and we showed her all our doctors toys. We also had the police come and visit us which was very exciting. We even got to sit in a real police car! On Friday we participated in a World Cup enrichment and visited different classes. Each class had a county theme and we learnt about that country. Our class country was England.

Week 3- This week we have been learning all about the police. We enjoyed a sensory story called ‘I want to be a Police Officer’. In our bike session, we made our own obstacle course and had to ride our bikes and scooters in and out of the cones. We had to loom at the adults who were holding up different colours (red, amber and green) like a traffic light. We did good listening. We have also enjoyed playing in our police role play area this week. We noticed some flour footprints in our role play area and used our detective skills to work out who’s feet they belonged too! We also have loved playing on our interactive toy phones and we could ring each other in the classroom which was great fun! We have also been singing lots of different nursery rhymes this week as part of ‘National Nursery Rhyme Week’. We have enjoyed using the different props in group time and independently.

Week 2- We have carried on with learning about the fire brigade this week. We have really enjoyed the past 2 weeks playing in our fire station role play and doing lots of nice fire related activities. We have loved using the squirty bottles to put out the ‘flames’ in our outdoor area. We also made pizza this week from our story ‘A busy day at the fire station’. We loved doing a science experiment this week, making fizzy fire in the cups which we were fascinated with. We ended the week with a trip to Aldi, where we went snack shopping for school. We helped the adults choose what snack items we like and did a great job.

Week 1- What a great first week back! We started the week having a Halloween party, with lots of Halloween turn taking games. We all looked great in our costumes. We have started to learn about the fire brigade this week as part of our ‘helping hands’ topic. We have loved exploring our new role play area. Kathryn organised some very special visitors to come to school this week! The fire brigade came to see us and we loved it. We even got to have a go at using the hose! They brought their very special fire engine called ‘The Stinger’ which was very impressive. We have also enjoyed learning about Bonfire night and even got to see some real day time fireworks.
