As we reach the end of the school year, we have started our transitions!
Our Early Years cohort at Kingsbury Cottage are transitioning to the main site in Skelmersdale, and our Year 6 children are beginning the transition to high school!
At Kingsbury Primary School, we know that transitions can bring a mixture of excitement, curiosity, and uncertainty for both children and their families. Whether children are moving from Kingsbury Cottage to our main site in Skelmersdale, or our Year 6 pupils are preparing for their next adventure in Year 7, we are committed to making these important milestones as positive and supportive as possible.
Our children are at the heart of everything we do, and that includes ensuring they feel safe, welcomed, and confident as they take their next steps.

For our EYFS pupils at Kingsbury Cottage in Scarisbrick, transition days have been taking place at our main site. These visits give children the opportunity to explore their new environment, spend time on the playground, visit their future classrooms, and become familiar with a larger site and more children. Just as importantly, they are beginning to build relationships with the staff and pupils they may be working alongside in September.
Preparation is key to building confidence. Our teams work closely together to ensure children are supported with the resources they need, including communication visuals, sensory aids, and social stories. By introducing changes gradually and providing plenty of opportunities for familiarisation, we help children feel secure and ready for what comes next.

Our Year 6 pupils have also begun their transition journey to West Lancashire College. Their first visit allowed them to experience the new environment while being supported by familiar Kingsbury staff. As their confidence grows, future visits will encourage increasing independence, with staff stepping back for short periods so pupils can spend time getting to know the adults who will support them in the next stage of their education.

We are incredibly proud of every achievement along the way, no matter how big or small. Whether it is walking into a new building for the first time, exploring a classroom, meeting a new member of staff, or spending time away from familiar adults, each step represents significant progress and growing confidence.
We understand that transition is a journey for families as well as children. By working together, maintaining open communication, and preparing children carefully, we can help ensure that every child feels supported, valued, and ready to thrive in their new environment.
We look forward to continuing to celebrate these important milestones with our children and families over the coming weeks.
