At Kingsbury, we are dedicated to embedding British values within our curriculum and school ethos, ensuring our pupils grow into responsible, respectful, and active citizens. The Department for Education defines British values as: Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs.
We actively encourage pupil voice and participation in decision-making. A great example of this was when our children voted to name our therapy dog—Dougie!
Our behaviour policy and partnerships with local authorities help students understand the importance of rules and laws in keeping everyone safe. We regularly welcome visits from local emergency services, such as the police and ambulance teams, to help familiarise children with key community figures.
We empower our pupils to express their wants and needs in the way that works best for them. By fostering a safe, supportive environment where their voices are heard, we encourage independence, confidence, and informed decision-making.
Respect is at the heart of our school. It is reflected in our daily interactions, teamwork, and commitment to celebrating each and every member of our community.
We celebrate diversity by teaching our children about different religions and cultures, helping them appreciate and respect different perspectives. Throughout the year, we mark a range of cultural events, encouraging our pupils to engage with and enjoy the richness of our diverse society.
These values are woven into every aspect of school life, from our teaching and policies to the way we interact each day. To reinforce this, our Communication Bill of Rights is displayed in every classroom, helping children see how British values can be applied in their daily lives.
