Green Frogs 2017 -2018
FOREST SCHOOL
All the children have been spending time at our new Forest School. They have enjoyed playing in the wellie walk, making bird feeders, playing in the willow tunnel and getting very muddy!
Green frogs love Forest School!
Some Green Frogs took part in an athletics competition at Burscough.
They were all superb and we won 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals!
This term Green Frogs have been learning about Vikings.
We enjoyed making a boat, a helmet and a shield. We pretended to sail in our long ship!
Green Frogs all enjoyed the annual school trip to Southport to bowling and to Frankie and Benny's. We all behaved superbly and made our teachers very proud. We had a great time with our friends.
What a busy start to the year! Green Frogs have all settled into their new classroom beautifully. All of the children are working very hard and new friendships are blooming!
This term we have enjoyed learning about 'Ancient Egypt', we made our own mummies and pyramids. One morning when we came into school our classroom had been transformed into a tomb, we found Tutankhamun! This topic has been lots of fun and the children have found it very interesting.
SPRING 2017
Our topic about the 60's
We have all had great fun learning about the 60's and during this topic we discovered a new favourite TV show: Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote!
During our lessons we have explored what life was like in the 60's: the houses they lived in and the furniture they had. We even had a go at making our own Lava Lamps in bottles. We looked at what life was like for children in the 60's and the toys and games they used to play. We found out that some of our toys today including LEGO came out in the 60's. Then we explored fashion and the different trends that people followed; we really enjoyed making our own tie dye t-shirts. Finally we explored the music from the time. We listened to a lot of Beatles tracks and decided to make our own band: The Green Beatles. We made our own musical instruments and played along to yellow submarine!
Pancake Day
We have had lots of fun celebrating pancake day in Green Frogs!
First we made some yummy pancakes in a frying pan and we all had a go at flipping our pancakes. Then once we had enjoyed them topped with nutella, fruit or syrup we took part in a timed pancake race to burn off some of the calories we had eaten!
Our Dinosaur Topic
During our topic learning all about Dinosaurs we have taken part in lots of exciting lessons and activities. We explored how fossils are created by layering mud, sand and water on top of our model dinosaur then we made and painted our own fossils out of salt dough.
We looked at different dinosaurs and compared what they ate then we made a habitat-in-a-pot for a herbivorous dinosaur by collecting natural materials from outside.
Finally we explored possible theories on the Dinosaur extinction. One table looked at how a volcano might have wiped out the dinosaurs and they experimented with making their own volcano. The other table explored how an ice age might have wiped out the dinosaurs and they experimented by trying to free model dinosaurs from an ice block.
Chinese New Year
During Chinese New Year, we explored the different ways in which the Chinese celebrate and had a go ourselves!
We made Chinese lanterns; watched dragon dances and made our own dancing dragons; painted pictures of fireworks and made our own traditional Chinese Stir Fry. See the pictures below
Christmas day out
Divali
We celebrated Divali during November, we had been learning about the Hindu religion in R.E.
We made clay lamp holders, then we decorated them and lit a candle in them.
Tally Charts
In maths we have been using tally charts to collect information. We went to the outside fence at the front of the school to count how many vehicles passed us in five minutes. We had to look for cars, vans. buses and motorbikes.
Halloween Disco
Some children from Green Frogs came in fancy dress to the Halloween Disco.
Pumpkin Picking
We visited Poplar pumpkin farm in Downholland to buy a pumpkin for us to carve in class.
